Visitors to Innsbruck, Austria, this summer will have the rare opportunity to view Lucas Cranach the Elder's Mariahilf (Madonna and Child) at eye-level. The painting, which is usually hung up in a high position in the Austrian city's cathedral, is one of the artist's most popular compositions and was widely copied. Routine renovation of the building has allowed for the painting to be loaned to the Ferdinandeum in Innsbruck for a special exhibition focusing on the work.

The show will run until 27th November 2022.

Sotheby's New York sold the following Madonna and Child with angels by Lucas Cranach the Elder and Workshop in January 2022. The catalogue note for this painting explored the influence of painters of the Italian renaissance on Cranach's Madonnas.
