The Louvre in Paris will be opening a major exhibition dedicated to the history of the still life genre next month. LES CHOSES Une histoire de la nature mor will feature a broad span of artworks from the prehistoric period right into the modern age. The museum's website illustrates a selection of Old Master Paintings which will be featured, including works by Luis Egidio Meléndez, Jean Baptiste Siméon Chardin, Adriaen Coorte (pictured), Louise Moillon.
The show will run from 12th October 2022 until 23rd January 2023.
One of the highlights from Sotheby's New York's Master Paintings & Sculpture sale in January 2022 was a beautifully preserved Still life of fraises-de-bois in a Wan-Li bowl upon a stone ledge by Adriaen Coorte. Works by this artist, whose oeuvre contains a mere sixty-four paintings, have become highly prized on the art market in recent decades.
