The Paul Mellon Centre for Studies in British Art in London have just published a new Online Catalgue Raisonné for the British watercolour artist Thomas Girtin (1775-1802). The project was begun by the scholar Greg Smith after Girtin's bicentenary exhibition held at Tate Britain in 2002 and features essays concerning biographical details alongside fully illustrated catalogue notes. The online catalogue contains approximately 1,550 works and is completely free to use.
The work by Girtin illustrated here, depicting Durham Cathedral and the Castle, realised £265,250 at Sotheby's London in July 2010.
