The Städel Museum in Frankfurt, Germany, have released details concerning the recent restoration of Guido Reni's Flagellation of Christ. Photographs show the careful work being undertaken to bring the painting back to a suitable condition for display. The article linked above also explains that the picture was only reintroduced as part of the artist's oeuvre after its inclusion in a 1988/9 exhibition held between Bologna, Los Angeles and Frankfurt. Current conservation treatment has been undertaken in preparation for a significant Guido Reni exhibition at the museum. This show is scheduled to open on 23rd November 2022 and will contain around 130 works by the artist supported by loans from major museums across the globe.
Here is a painting of Christ as Ecce Homo, an oil on canvas by the Bolognese master which was sold at Sotheby's New York in 2015.
