Getty Publications' latest release for February 2023 is the following book entitled Balthazar: A Black African King in Medieval and Renaissance Art. The book follows the 2019 - 2020 exhibition on the same subject and examines the figure of Balthazar, one of the biblical magi, and explains how and why he came to be depicted as a Black African king.
The book was edited by Kristen Collins, curator of manuscripts at the J. Paul Getty Museum, and Bryan C. Keene, assistant professor of art history at Riverside City College, and is accompanied by an introduction by Henry Louis Gates Jr.
