The Palace of Versailles have recently conserved and re-displayed their recently acquired Self Portrait by Catherine Duchemin (1630–1698). Known primarily for her flower and fruit still lifes, Catherine was in the first female artist to have been received into the Académie royale de peinture et de sculpture. Acquired in 2022, the old yellow varnish which had covered the work has been removed to reveal the painting's rich colouring. Visitors to the palace will be able to view this rare and important portrait hanging in the Aile du Nord on the first floor of the building.
