Titian's The Assumption of the Virgin, one of the treasures of the Santa Maria Gloriosa dei Frari, Venice, is being unveiled to the public after a four year restoration program. The painting, which might be considered one of the most iconic works of art in the floating city, has undergone work including the removal of pigmented varnish which was applied to the artwork in the nineteenth century. It has been said that 'viewers will be astonished' once they see the painting in its restored state. The project was funded entirely by Save Venice, an organisation dedicated to the conservation of art and architecture and the preservation of cultural heritage sites in Venice.
The whole painting will be revealed by 4th October 2022.
