Eleonora di Toledo (1522-1562), perhaps one the most influential women of the Medici court, is being celebrated in a brand new exhibition at the Uffizi, Florence. A lady who was immortalized by the court portrait painter Agnolo Bronzino, this exhibition brings together a vast display of paintings, drawings, tapestries, jewels and gems which will recount her extraordinary life and cultural influence. Drawing on the ever-growing interest in costume in portraiture, the show also features dresses and accessories which resonate to the clothing found in some of her most iconic portraits (pictured above).
Sotheby's New York's recent Old Master Paintings in January 2023 featured a small portrait of a Lady by Alessandro Allori which has at times been identified as Eleonora. Click on the link to read the full catalogue note of this painting.
