This September's Made in Britain sale is led by an exceptional group of ceramics by Dame Lucie Rie, Hans Coper, James Tower and Bernard Leach, bold and brilliant prints by Damien Hirst and David Hockney, works by many of the great St Ives Artists such as Patrick Heron, Ben Nicholson, Peter Lanyon and John Wells and photographs of some of Britain’s most iconic figures of the 20th and 21st centuries.

Bridget Riley
One of Britain’s most recognised and celebrated artists, Made in Britain is delighted to present a range of works from across Bridget Riley’s lifelong career and dedication to her practice. The sale offers a wide range of her instantly recognisable optic and geometric prints of the 1960s, in her iconic black and white design and variously coloured patterns, which all demonstrate Riley’s place as an icon of British art today.
British Studio Ceramics
Sotheby’s is delighted to present works by some of the most renowned British ceramicists and potters from throughout the twentieth century to the present day. Spanning from Bernard Leach and his early pioneering designs such as Fish Vase, Lucie Rie’s tableware sets, and to the work of practicing contemporary artists such as Jennifer Lee and Rupert Spira, Made in Britain continues its legacy in including some of the finest examples of studio ceramics on the market today. This sale includes a group of works by Rie and a Shoji Hamada vase from the family of Sir Ove Arup, an avid collector and patron of many of ceramicists from an early stage in their careers.
