Overview

Sotheby’s French & Continental Furniture department offers 18th-century French furniture and decorative arts, including mirrors, clocks and lighting devices such as candelabra, torchères and chandeliers as well as furniture and decorative arts from Continental Europe, including Germany, Italy, Sweden and Russia, from the 17th to the late 19th century.

Our global team in New York, London, Paris and Milan work closely with their colleagues throughout Sotheby's worldwide locations. Together, they have overseen a variety of high-profile and groundbreaking sales, including Pierre Bergé: From One Home to Another, totalling 27.4 million euros, in Paris, Property from the Collection of Mrs. Paul Mellon in New York, and The Grimani Tables in London.

Along with single owner sales, the French & Continental Furniture department also holds Royal & Noble once a year in London, offering property with distinguished aristocratic provenances. Twice a year (spring & autumn) in London, New York, and Paris, the department also presents the Classic Design sales. This sale explores the concept of style throughout the centuries, appealing to connoisseurs and decorators alike.
