S otheby’s Asia is thrilled to return to the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre this spring from 2 – 9 April with The Hong Kong Sales, presenting an exciting line-up of nearly 20 auctions across all facets of art and luxury.
Kicking off a night of livestreamed sales on 5 April will be The Now Evening Auction, offering the most exciting, cutting-edge works on the market and providing a masterpiece context for well-established and newly canonised artists such as Jadé Fadojutimi, Nicolas Party, and Daniel Richter. Encompassing more than a century of pioneering artistic production, the works showcased in the Modern & Contemporary Evening Auction traverse the major artistic movements of the late 19th and 20th centuries. Leading the sale is a phenomenal painting by Yoshitomo Nara, a glorious abstract painting by Zao Wou-Ki from the pinnacle of his artistic career, and works by Monet and Renoir – commemorating the 150th anniversary of Impressionism.
From The Luxury Sales comes the inaugural live auction of Moutai in Hong Kong, titled Moutai Extravaganza. Among the highlights for the jewellery and watch lover out there is a dazzling coloured diamond and diamond necklace by Boucheron, and the Patek Philippe Reference 2526, the first self-winding wristwatch made specially for renowned collector J.B. Champion.
Chinese Works of Art presents a spectacular roster of sales including a European collection of exquisite Chinese ceramics acquired from Edward T. Chow, which have not been seen in the public eye for more than half a century.
The Leshantang Collection – Treasures of Chinese Art from the Tsai I-Ming Collection also makes a triumphant return this spring. Spanning a millennium of artistic production, the collection is a storied one, representing a connoisseurial depth and art historical breadth with few equals in the world of Chinese art today. At the heart of the sale is Zhang Daqian's Red Robe Avalokiteshvara, one of the most iconic and celebrated example of the artist’s mural copy of figures from the Dunhuang caves.
From Fine Chinese Paintings comes the single-owner collection, Hidden Treasures from the Liu Hankun Family Collection, featuring the collection of Liu Hankun, the eldest son of Liu Guojun who was a prominent figure in the textiles industry. Offered to market for the first time, the collection is headlined by Zhang Daqian’s Hermit in Verdant Forest, a magnificent and exceptionally rare landscape painting exemplary of the master’s much revered meticulous composition and brushwork in the 1940s.
