Louis Vuitton Neverfull: Luxury Tote With A Cult Following

When it comes to the world of luxury handbags, one would be hard pressed to find a bag more devoutly followed than the Louis Vuitton Neverfull. Introduced in 2007 as a seasonal beach bag, the LV Neverfull quickly achieved its status as a timeless classic. According to fashion lore, this iconic Louis Vuitton Neverfull was designed to rival the similarly spacious and versatile Goyard Saint-Louis Tote, which had been around since the 1930s. It was only a matter of time before the LV Neverfull surpassed the Saint-Louis in consumer demand. Naturally, the quintessential design of the LV Neverfull has solidified it as Louis Vuitton's best-selling tote.

Everything About the Louis Vuitton Neverfull

Given its exquisite craftsmanship, the LV Neverfull can take up to 45 hours to create. It is this extensive process that makes the tote not only incredibly sturdy and luxurious to touch, but completely reversible. With an interior just as striking as the exterior, you essentially get two bags in one. Initially, the Neverfull was launched with a striped beige or cherise (cherry) interior, paying tribute to the canvas linings of Louis Vuitton’s original trunks. In response to its tremendous success, the Louis Vuitton Neverfull’s interior options soon expanded, covering every shade from Rose Ballerine and Fuschia to Mimosa. As of 2013, each tote comes with a detachable accessories pouch, functioning as an additional wallet-like space for keys and cards (or as a stand-alone Pochette!). Louis Vuitton prides itself on mastery of detail, and the Louis Vuitton Neverfull is a shining example of this very technique.

Louis Vuitton Neverfull Options

In each size offered, the Louis Vuitton Neverfull is, quite literally, never full. Since 2007, the LV Neverfull has only ever been available in three sizes: the PM (“Petit Modele”), MM (“Moyen Modele”), and GM (“Grand Modele”). The Neverfull PM is the smallest size and is increasingly more difficult to purchase online or in the store. The Neverfull MM can easily fit a laptop and is the most popular size, The Neverfull GM holds all you could ever need and could be used as a weekend bag. Despite its deceivingly delicate handles, the Neverfull GM can hold up to 200 pounds of weight! There is truly no greater testament to Louis Vuitton Neverfull’s expert construction than this design capability.

Beyond its size range, the Louis Vuitton Neverfull is consistently released in Limited Edition patterns and materials. When first introduced, the LV Neverfull was only available in Louis Vuitton’s classic brown monogram canvas. Yet, as an immediate fan-favorite, the Neverfull was quickly made available in Damier Ebene, Damier Azur, and finally, Epi Leather. It was with this launch of Epi Leather that the Neverfull’s color range expanded like never before, enhancing the tote’s wearability for any and all occasions.

Louis Vuitton Neverfull Limited Editions

Over the past decade, the Neverfull bag has served as the perfect blank canvas for artist collaborations and seasonal prints. From Takashi Murakami and Yayoi Kusama to Jeff Koons, the Louis Vuitton Neverfull has been reimagined by the world’s most prolific creators. The first, and arguably most iconic, artist collaboration ever done by Louis Vuitton was in 2001, with New York-based designer Stephen Sprouse. Given the spectacular results of this collaboration, Sprouses’ graffiti and rose designs were reintroduced in 2009, radicalizing the Neverfull’s traditional monogram canvas. From classic canvas to striking printed editions, the Louis Vuitton Neverfull is one of the most coveted luxury handbags on the resale market… and an absolute must-have in your collection.
