F or the final edition of our "Weekly sales" series in Paris from 12 to 19 November, we will be offering a selection of antique jewellery such as a very beautiful transformable tiara from the end of the 19th century, decorated with diamond-set stars motifs, jewellery from the beginning of the 20th century such as a seed pearl sautoir decorated with a diamond-set openwork motif. The sale will also feature typical Art Deco pieces, as illustrated by a series of diamond studded bracelets from the 1930s. These will be followed by jewels from the Retro period signed Van Cleef & Arpels, Cartier, Boucheron or David Webb.
The sale also comprises a "Bijoux d’Artistes" section, with pieces signed by Georges Braque, César, Jean Després, Lalanne, or Pomodoro.
And finally, our modern jewellery section, with pieces signed by Bulgari, Cartier, Chanel, Chaumet, Fred, Graff, Lydia Courteille, Poiray, and Van Cleef & Arpels. This part of the sale will feature women’s watches from makers such as Audemars Piguet, Girard-Perregaux, IWC, Patek Philippe, Piaget and Rolex, as well as watches from Bulgari, Cartier, Chanel and Van Cleef & Arpels.
This month, our sale gives top billing to yellow gemstones. Yellow diamonds, sapphires, citrines... there are stones to suit everyone! The great fame of the Maison Cartier does not end with Jewellery; Cartier has been an important member of the Watchmaking industry since the beginning of the 20th century. In 1904, Cartier designed one of the first modern wristwatches for the famous Brazilian aviator, Alberto Santos Dumont – a watch that bears his name. In 1917, the Tank watch was born and the very first one was offered as a gift to General Pershing. That watch was followed by others: the Tortue, Baignoire, Pasha, etc.. all of these watches that are still very popular today and which you can find in our selection.
Owning jewellery made by an artist means having a miniature work of art to wear on your finger or around your neck. In 1949, Georges Braque introduced the theme of the bird into his work after having observed at length the flight of pink flamingos and having made it a recurring subject. In 1967, two years after casting his own thumb, César made a mold of the breast of one of the dancers from the Crazy Horse cabaret and turned it into a sculpture as well. Transformed into a brooch and a pendant, you will find these two works in our sale along with other works by Gio Pomodoro, Jean Després or Claude Lalanne.
