The Words That Revived the Olympic Games

New York | 18 December

In 1892, French aristocrat, educator and athletics advocate Pierre de Coubertin outlined his idealist dream for a revival of the ancient Olympic Games. This vision, which he wrote as a 14-page manuscript, is the manifesto for the modern Olympic Games we now cherish. In this video, hear the inspirational words of Coubertin from the voices of Olympic Athletes, including runner Linford Christie, swimmer Mark Foster, gymnast Becky Wing and long-jumper Jade Johnson. Never before exhibited publicly, The Olympic Manifesto will be offered as a highlight of Sotheby’s Fine Books & Manuscripts auction. (New York| 18 December)
