Executed between 1923 and 1945, this collection of nine works is arguably the most important ensemble of late portraits by Helene Schjerfbeck still in private hands. These drawings, watercolours and paintings illustrate the startling originality that placed her at the very forefront of not only Finnish but also European modernism. The appearance of such a group is a once-in-a-generation event and will be the highlight of the European & British Art, Part I auction on 13 July 2022.
