S otheby’s is offering the exceptional collection of Islamic and Indian arms and armour assembled by renowned scholar-collector Philippe Gilles René Missillier (1949–2022). Spanning over 100 lots and more than 500 years of history, this extraordinary collection is the result of over five decades of passionate study and dedication.

Missillier devoted his life to mastering the world of arms and armour — visiting museums, attending auctions, collecting catalogues, and immersing himself so deeply in the field that he became a leading authority. In 1988, a major part of his collection was exhibited in Splendeur des Armes Orientales in Paris, the largest exhibition of its kind. Now, for the first time since, this remarkable collection is being exhibited once more.
