Biography

Sebastian was appointed as EVP, Managing Director of Sotheby’s Global Fine Art in 2023, leading the business functions across the division as well as developing growth strategies and initiatives. As well as heading up the Global Fine Art business functions, Sebastian also oversees the Old Masters, Asian Art, 20th Century Design and Art & Objects departments. He also manages Sotheby’s operations in the Middle East and in early 2021, was charged with the role of Executive Lead for the newly established Sotheby’s NFT department, thanks to his avid interest in and passion for the subject.

Prior to his current appointment, Sebastian has had a long and varied career at Sotheby’s spanning almost two decades. Originally based in London, he has worked across both sales and support functions in Sotheby’s offices around the world while based in London, New York, and Hong Kong.

From 2019 until 2023 Sebastian served as Managing Director of Sotheby’s EMEA, responsible for the company’s business in Europe, the Middle East, Russia, India and Africa. Sebastian also lived in Hong Kong between 2015 and 2020, where he served as Commercial Director, Asia, before assuming the role of Managing Director – Business, Asia in 2018. Sebastian was also Senior Director of Auction Deals for Sotheby’s Europe and before this, Head of Sotheby’s Financial Services, Europe and Asia, where he offered both customised loans for property consigned for sale and term loans secured against the value of a collection, helping Sotheby’s global clients put their art collections and other valuable assets to work.

Sebastian joined Sotheby’s in 2004 following his graduation from the London School of Economics.
