Cultural magnet in an architectural revelation
The Guggenheim Museum Bilbao is a landmark of late-20th-century architecture, an undulating sculpture in titanium, limestone and glass designed by Frank Gehry. Situated on the Nervión River in what used to be an industrial port area of Bilbao, the museum now attracts millions of visitors each year and holds an impressive permanent collection of modern and contemporary art, including large-scale installations by Richard Serra, Jeff Koons, Joseph Beuys, Louise Bourgeois and Jenny Holzer. The museum forms part of the larger Guggenheim network that includes the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum, New York; Peggy Guggenheim Collection, Venice; and Guggenheim Abu Dhabi Museum, enabling access to an international network and collection, and supporting a wide-ranging exhibition program in its vast gallery space.
