The sale includes a variety of design works by many of the most influential artists from the Art Nouveau period through Contemporary Design. Artists such as Tiffany Studios, Louis Majorelle, Émile Gallé, René Lalique, Jean-Michel Frank, Charlotte Perriand, Serge Mouille, Maria Pergay, Gio Ponti, George Nakashima, Wendell Castle, Paul Evans, Marc Newson, Fernando and Humberto Campana, and many more. Opening the sale is an exquisite selection of leaded glass lighting, blown favrile glass, and small desk goods by Tiffany Studios. Highlights include examples of the wonderfully naturalistic “Poppy” and “Poinsettia” table lamp models, as well as a group of highly artistic favrile glass vases.
Turn-of-the-century decorative arts is represented in all of its splendor through superior glass and furniture by top makers from the period. Anchored by a spectacular vitrine by Louis Majorelle, this chapter also includes works by Émile Gallé and Eugène Gaillard as well as the glass firms Daum and Lötz.
At the core of the sale’s pre-war chapter figures a rich and diverse selection French Art Deco furniture and decorative arts, which brings together superior pieces by René Lalique, Jean-Michel Frank, Raymond Subes, Jean-Théodore Dupas, Gabriel Argy-Rousseau and André Sornay.
Mid-century European design is celebrated in the sale through a wide range of works by highly regarded cabinetmakers and architects whose practice has defined modern-day decorative arts.
