"Butomées" Two-Tiered Tea Table

circa 1900

walnut, fruitwood marquetry, bronze

signed L. Majorelle in the marquetry

32 ⅜ x 35 ¾ x 23 ¼ in. (82.2 x 90.8 x 59.1 cm)

Overall in very good condition. This table presents with superb details and marquetry decorations in very well-preserved condition. The wood with scattered and minor surface scratches and indentations, particularly concentrated to the edges and legs as consistent with age and gentle use. The wood surfaces appear to have been sensitively refinished at some point in the history of the piece. The upper tier with light surface soiling and a semicircular abrasion toward the center measuring 5 inches and not visually distracting. The upper tier with small areas of sensitive restoration to the marquetry and the lower tier with a sensitively restored and in-painted crack at one corner measuring 2 inches and not visually distracting. The lower tier with a very minor circular loss to the marquetry that is not visible unless closely inspected. The bronze mounts are in very good condition with light surface soiling and tarnish concentrated to the recessed areas of the design.
