"Clématites" Vitrine

circa 1905

with original key

walnut, satinwood, glass, silk

74 ½ x 36 ½ x 16 ½ in. (190.5 x 93.3 x 41.9 cm)

Overall in very good condition. The vitrine has preserved all of its raised decorative motifs in walnut and presents a very sturdy and sculptural structure overall. The wooden surfaces with light scratches and scuffing throughout, consistent with age and gentle use and concentrated to the base and legs. The central upper tray with two light scratches measuring approximately 2 inches each. The recessed areas of the vitrine, particularly around the raised motifs, with some dust and light surface residue consistent with age. The glass panels in excellent condition and minor scuffing and surface residue concentrated to the corners and outsides. The silk lining on the inside of the cabinet with a 5-inch tear on the proper right side as well as areas of partial loss near the corners that are not visually distracting. A very well-documented model by Majorelle with charming naturalistic decorations and strong artistic presence.
