Dining Table

circa 1962-1965

produced by the Directional Furniture Company, New York

welded, gilt and patinated steel, glass

29 ¾ x 98 x 48 in. (75.6 x 248.9 x 121.9 cm)

Overall in very good condition. The table base exemplifies Paul Evans’ signature patchwork welding technique. The steel elements overall present with surface irregularities and great texture which are inherent to the artist’s practice. The steel presents with some areas of oxidation particularly concentrated to the outer edges of each patchwork element consistent with age and the natural evolution of the medium. Occasional and minor scratches and chips throughout the base, which are not visually distracting and with some possibly inherent to the production process. The glass table top is a transparent charcoal grey color and is in excellent condition with very light and scattered scratches consistent with gentle use. A few more pronounced scratches concentrated to the underside where the glass meets the base. Two corners of the glass with minute chips not visible unless closely inspected.
