The sale Regards sur l'Orient, Paintings, Orientalists Sculptures and Islamic Art, will take place on the 23rd June 2010. It will include around sixty orientalist paintings, amongst a beautiful selection of paintings by important artists who lived in Morocco. Eight works by Jacques Majorelle are examples of the variety of his artistic creation. Ones should also mention Paintings by Henri-Jean Pontoy, Edy Legrand, José Cruz Herrera, Edouard Verschaffelt, Jean-Désiré Bascoulès, Luis-Joseph Endrès etc
The section dedicated to Islamic art includes 90 lots in three groups: mediaeval art, including Abbasid pages in Kufic script from the 10th century, Ottoman art with a group of lavender blue Iznik tiles dating from 1560, est. between 30 000 and 40 000, and a number of works of art from the collection of Prince Naghib Abdallah Bey from the late 19th and early 20th century marked by the Egyptian royal monograms.
The sale is completed by a beautiful selection of sculptures, which consists of a small group of Viennese cold painted polychrome bronze groups cast by the Franz Bergman foundry. Amongst these remarkable works of art is also a pair of polychrome bronzes of an Ottoman Couple by Louis Hottot, a beautiful bronze Fellah Woman by Charles-Henry-Joseph Cordier with two patinas adorned with gilding, as well as a fine terracotta bust Oriental Woman by Albet-Ernest Carrier-Belleuse.
