A sia Week is here, and Sotheby’s specialists are excited to be your tour guides throughout this season’s extraordinary lineup of sales.
Representing nearly 4,000 years of history, Sotheby’s Asia Week celebrates the variety of traditions and forms that make up the canon of Asian art history, featuring works from Junkunc: Chinese Jade Carvings; Kangxi Porcelain – A Private Collection; Indian, Himalayan & Southeast Asian Works of Art; Important Chinese Art; and The Hundred Antiques: Fine & Decorative Asian Art.
Highlights include An Exceptional and Rare White and Russet Jade ‘Mythical Beast’ Carving, a brilliant, hand-crafted artifact which follows the natural form of the pebble to form a pair of mythical beasts.
In addition to jade, there is a brilliant collection of Kangxi porcelain vases, including A Rare and Exceptional Underglaze-red and Famille-verte 'Rose' Vase, which is sparingly painted with a design of two rose sprays – showcasing the technical progress achieved by craftsmen of the Kangxi period.
From Important Chinese Art, An Exceptionally Rare and Important Gold, Silver and Glass-embellished Bronze Vessel (Fang Hu) is on offer. This bronze vessel has not been publicized or exhibited since 1938. With its embellishments in gold, silver and polychrome glass, this piece showcases the height of luxury from the Warring States period (475-221 BC).
The Hundred Antiques: Fine & Decorative Asian Art features a diverse array of objects – including A Pair of Carved 'Hongmu' Square-corner Cabinets, sure to make a statement in any home.
A different region is on display in An Illustration to a Ragmala Series: Malkos Raga, India, Amber. This painting, from the Indian, Himalayan & Southeast Asian Works of Art auction, portrays a young lord attended by ladies and entertained by musicians in an open courtyard before a terraced pavilion.
