The inaugural wine & spirits experience will feature everything a collector could want, from Burgundies to California cult wines. Our specialist chose some of their favorites.

T his fall, Sotheby’s in New York will play host to Nightcap, a new global wine & spirits experience and sales series that will run from 16-19 September at the Breuer. From the notable single owner series The Impeccable Burgundy Collection, to A Collection from Sotheby’s Greatest Single-Owner Auctions, Nightcap’s live and online sales and events will surprise and delight any seasoned collector.

It is one of our biggest sales of wine to date and, therefore, collectors are spoiled for choice. We asked wine specialist Walt Oggero to choose his highlights from the sales. Peruse responsibly below and make sure you bookmark them now.

Finest & Rarest Wines, 3-16 September

La Tâche 1990 Domaine de la Romanée-Conti

“Featured in impressive Methuselah format (6 liters), from the Monopole La Tâche vineyard in the legendary 1990 vintage. Lightning strikes thrice.“

Musigny 2015 Domaine Georges Roumier

“A wine of truly minuscule production, with just barely a barrel or two produced, it is one of the most highly allocated and sought-after wines in the world.”

Screaming Eagle, Cabernet Sauvignon, Napa Valley 1999

“A legend of California cult wines, likely the first to achieve this status and create this commotion. The wines are masterfully crafted and revered. Waiting lists to receive an allocation can last 10 years or more, making access as coveted as the wines themselves.”

The Wine Cellar of a Visionary, 17 September

Côte-Rôtie, Côte Brune, Cuvée Réservée 1985 Gentaz-Dervieux

“Gentaz-Dervieux is a producer who no longer exists today but was heralded as one of the greatest winemakers in the Côte-Rôtie. It is something of a hidden secret and always a treasure when bottles resurface in the modern era.

Bonnes Mares 1996 Domaine d'Auvenay

“Produced from one of the titans in Burgundy, Lalou Bize-Leroy, this rare Bonnes-Mares from a fantastic vintage is something that every collector chases.”

The Impeccable Burgundy Collection, 19 September

DRC Magnum Assortment Case 2005 Domaine de la Romanée-Conti

“It’s not often that we see an assortment case of Domaine de la Romanée-Conti, and even more rare for it to be in magnum format and from a stellar vintage”

Vosne Romanée, Cros Parantoux 1993 Henri Jayer

“The famed Burgundy producer Henri Jayer is known through his legend in the wine world. This wine was crafted from his hyper niche vineyard, Cros Parantoux, and is known as one of the pinnacles of collectible wines.”

La Romanée 1865 Bouchard Père et Fils

“Bouchard is a renowned Burgundy producer who’s production and history can be traced back to the 1700s. This rare bottling of La Romanée was released from the cellars of the domaine recently and exhibits remarkable condition.”
