We were honored to be asked by Sotheby’s to create two room vignettes from four upcoming Paris sales- Oceania, Arts d’Afrique, d’Amerique et d’Indonésie, Important Design and Art Contemporain. We curated pieces from the sales and created vignettes in a similar manner to how we express design concepts to our clients.
In our own work, where we use historical objects, the aim is always to bring the pieces into a contemporary and livable context. We design the architectural detailing of the room as a background to bring together the mix of periods – contemporary, midcentury, deco, primitive, etc. We especially like to mix Modern and Contemporary Art and 20th Century Design with African and Oceanic - as one can see in the two vignettes- the combinations speak to how the past has influenced modern artists and designers.
