Style - Mobilier et Objets d’Art 12–19 November 2020 • 3:00 PM CET • Paris

Style - Mobilier et Objets d’Art is a tribute to the decor of the great Parisian stately homes, comprising not only important furniture and objets d’art with prestigious provenance but also more accessible and charming pieces. It is precisely this combination that brings character to these interiors, where beauty is the watchword.

The Style sale offers works from several private collections, including the contents of two Parisian hôtels particuliers where one can find the great signatures of French ébénisterie. Among the star lots of this sale is an impressive group of seven tapestries from the series, Les Grotesques, made at the Manufacture de Beauvais in the early eighteenth century and a very rare pair of commodes from the Louis XVI period stamped Ferdinand Bury. The sale follows with more decorative lots: magnificent oil lamps, table tops in scagliola and a multitude of objects carefully selected for their high quality and decorative effect.

A steel, ivory, hard stones and gilt-bronze cabinet attributed to Placido Zuloaga, Spanish, late 19the century
This superb cabinet represents the apogee of European decorative arts at the end of the 19th century, where perfection of execution, down to the smallest details, was combined with true creative inspiration. Zuloaga excelled in metalwork and there is a strong Arab-Andalusian influence evident in his oeuvre that can be seen in our cabinet.

A scagliola top attributed to Lorenzo Bonuccelli, late 17th century
The decoration of this beautiful, finely crafted scagliola top imitates the hard stone panels that were a specialty of Florence. Bonuccelli, one of the great artists of this technique, worked in Turin from 1685 to 1707. It was Pietro Piffetti himself, the greatest Italian cabinetmaker of the eighteenth century, who made frames for these panels, proof of Bonuccelli's prestigious reputation.

A pair of gilt-bronze wall-lights, Louis XVI, attributed to Pierre Gouthière after a design by Jean-Louis Prieur
This pair of gilt bronze wall lights evokes two inseparable names of the art of gilt bronze under the reign of Louis XVI, that of Jean-Louis Prieur painter and designer and that of Pierre Gouthière, chaser-gilder of the king. The examination of our pair of wall lights shows an extreme quality of carving which is found in the modeling of the face and the body of the child.
