Andy Warhol began experimenting with self-portraiture as a young artist in 1963. By the time he created the Fright Wig self-portraits in 1986 he had become a larger-than-life figure and a mature artist who was capable of expressing deep introspection and vulnerability. “Self-Portrait (Fright Wig)” is an important highlight of Sotheby’s Contemporary Art Evening Auction on 11 May in New York.
