Pol Taburet Biography

Pol Taburet, born in 1997, is an artist who lives and works in Paris, France. Drawing from the artist’s own Caribbean background and his prolific understanding of the Western canon of art history, Taburet has carved a unique and idiosyncratic style that incorporates multiple techniques and media including acrylic, oil paint, airbrushes, and more. In 2022, he was awarded the Reiffers Art Initiatives Prize which supports young contemporary creation.

Working across media of painting and sculpture, Taburet takes inspirations such as voodoo mythology or Baroque and religious art to question the relationship between body and object, figurative and abstract, and life and death. His compositional devices impress a certain dystopian sense of terror. Figures often feature fangs, weaponous tongues, laser-like pupils, and other qualities that encounter the viewer with the otherworldly, while textural and tonal modulations lend an ascorbic, animated quality characteristic of Taburet’s distinctive perspective. What results is a corpus that offers a chance encounter with the occult, one felt far before it can be understood, one which continues to surprise us and expands our understandings of figurative painting.

Taburet’s works, with their unique technique and subject matter, have been the subject of international solo exhibitions such as Pol Taburet: Anamorphosis at the Longlati Foundation, Shanghai in 2024 or OPERA III: ZOO “The Day of Heaven and Hell” at Lafayette Anticipations, Paris in 2023. He has also been included in group shows at prestigious institutions such as the SONGEUN Art and Cultural Foundation, Seoul, Fondation d’enterprise Pernod Ricard, Paris, and the 6th Dhaka Art Summit and has found his works collected by public collections such as the Pinault Collection, Paris and Lafayette Anticipations, Paris.
