AN INVITATION TO CONSIGN, HONG KONG MODERN ASIAN ART SALES

By Sotheby's

We invite you to share our success with the opportunity to consign with us!

Sotheby’s Modern Asian Art sales in 2016 were remarkable, achieving HK$662,175,000 with a sell-through rate of 82% and multiple records set. These outstanding results confirm our leadership of the category in Asia and confirm the efficacy of Sotheby’s international network both in the sourcing of property and the access to the bidders and buyers, within and outside of Asia.

Top quality modern works continue to perform with strength, with Wang Huaiqing’s Feet 2 (diptych), Xu Beihong’s The Sleeping Venus, Léonard Tsuguharu Foujita’s Nu au chat, Zao Wou-Ki’s Paysage dans la lune, Ailleurs, and Wu Guanzhong’s The Hometown of Lu Xun being the top lots in Spring and Autumn sales. Thoughtful placement of these pieces in expertly-curated sales locate the works within the evolution of modern Asian art, from the late 19th century to present day, exploring the ways in which modern Asian artists understand, reflect upon and reaffirm the value of their heritage in dialogue with Western modes of cultural exchange. Two important works on paper sales: Ineffable Beauty and The Sublime – Wou-Ki Zao were 100% sold, reflecting strong market demand for such rare offerings. The success is also a testament to Sotheby’s meticulous sourcing approach and reinforces Sotheby’s position as a market leader in Modern Asian Art.

We invite you to share our success with the opportunity to consign property to our sales in April and October.
