ROBERTS, DAVID
The Holy Land, Syria, Idumea, Arabia. London: F.G. Moon, 1842-1849
FIRST EDITION, 3 volumes, folio (610 x 435mm.), lithographed portrait, 2 (of 3) HAND-COLOURED lithographed titles and 120 HAND-COLOURED lithographed plates by Louis Haghe after David Roberts, mounted on card, with the leaves "Idumea'' (bound in volume 1) and "Bethlehem'' (bound in volume 2), contemporary red morocco gilt by Westleys and Clark, gilt edges, lacking title to volume 3, map and one printed preliminary leaf (Description of vignettes to volumes 2 and 3), some plates spotted, one text leaf in volume 2 and the portrait dampstained, some contents loose or becoming so, covers rubbed and marked, slight wear to spines
THE DELUXE HAND-COLOURED ISSUE of the Holy Land with the plates mounted on card.
This copy has been erratically bound compared with the collation given in Abbey, which may be accounted for by the fact that the missing printed preliminary leaf bears on its verso the contents of each volume.
