The November 27th auction offers for sale outstanding historical and post-war works of Canadian art by this nation’s most respected artists. Major canvases or oil sketches by Tom Thomson and Group of Seven members by Lawren Harris, AY Jackson, AJ Casson, Frank Johnston and JEH MacDonald complement exquisite canvases by contemporaries David Milne and Emily Carr as well as Quebec painters Marc-Aurèle Fortin and Jean Paul Lemieux. Historical works by James Duncan, J.W. Morrice and Krieghoff have also been entrusted to us as have major Canadian Impressionists canvases and oil sketches by Clarence Gagnon and Maurice Cullen.
The post-war section of the sale is replete with major works by the Painters Eleven artists or their contemporaries Jack Bush, Harold Town, William Ronald, Walter Yarwood and John Meredith. Quebec is equally well-represented by major works by Jean McEwen, Claude Tousignant, Jacques de Tonnancour and Marcelle Ferron. The sale includes contemporary works by Takao Tanabe, Dennis Burton, Joanne Tod, Tony Scherman and Iain Baxter&.
