n February 20 Sotheby’s hosted a reception and viewing of highlights from the upcoming New York sale of Modern & Contemporary South Asian Art at the Leela Palace Hotel, Delhi. This year marks 25 years of sales in this category at Sotheby’s, where the auction of the Chester and Davida Herwitz Collection in 1995 catapulted Modern and Contemporary Indian Art into the international auction arena. The highlights exhibition included twenty paintings that will be offered in the New York sale on March 16, led by rare and stunning works by V. S. Gaitonde and Nasreen Mohamedi, amongst others. The cocktail reception was attended by over 150 guests including collectors, connoisseurs and artists.
