FIRST EDITION, 2 volumes, folio (547 x 368 mm.), engraved portrait frontispiece and engraved dedication in vol.1, title-pages and engraved additional titles in each volume, 108 plates (2 folding) on 105 leaves, comprising engravings, soft-ground etchings, mezzotints, stipple-engravings, printed in sepia, black and bistre, engraved and woodcut head-pieces, contemporary half calf, rebacked, some plates browned, some spotting, supper hinge of vol.2 reinforced, boards rubbed


A striking production featuring works after Leonardo, Michelangelo, Raphael, Caravaggio, Rubens, Van Dycke, Corregio, and others, commissioned from the leading engravers of the day. The publication encompasses works from Rogers's own collection, as well as drawings owned by the likes of Sir Joshua Reynolds, Earl Spencer, Robert Adam, John Barnard, and others.
