Catalogue Note
Johann Elias Ridinger died in 1767 and this work was completed by his sons. It is one of only two of his works to be issued with hand-coloured plates.
No general title was printed for this work and the title commonly used for it (as here) is taken from the drop-head title on C1, though Thiébaud employs "Représentation des animaux" and Schwerdt "Thier-Reich". Thienemann did not believe this work could be found in a complete state: indeed this copy, though complete, is clearly made up from different sources and inserted into a contemporary binding.
