History of the Hermès In-the-Loop
The Hermès In-the-Loop bag pays homage to the iconic Chain D’Ancre motif, a symbol deeply rooted in the history of Hermès since 1938. It is a regular motif that is regularly featured in a range of Hermès products. In 1937, Robert Dumas, son-in-law of Emile Hermès, traveled to the coast of Normandy, where he was captivated by the intricate chain links connecting a boat to its anchor. In 1938, Dumas brought this idea to Hermès and crafted the silver Chain D’Ancre bracelet. In 1970, the Chain D’Ancre design was registered as an exclusive to Hermès. The In-the-Loop bag draws inspiration from Dumas’s Normandy trip, featuring the Chain D’Ancre motif throughout the bag’s design. This bucket-shaped bag has smooth Swift leather handles and a convenient pocket inside. Its structured bottom features the Chain D’Ancre design, supporting the entire bag. The Hermès In-the-Loop bag has a clasp closure that embraces the motif while ensuring your belongings are secure. Its wide compartment opening offers easy access to all your essentials. Launched in December of 2022, this bag has the potential to become the next Hermès “it-bag” and could become an alternative to the Hermès Picotin.

Hermès In-the-Loop versus Hermès Picotin
The Hermès In-the-Loop is a natural alternative to the Hermès Picotin given their similar shapes. Both bags are unlined with a leather base interior, two handles, a hardware closure and most commonly available in Clemence leather. The Hermès In-the-Loop is more expensive due to more leather used to make the straps, the interior leather pocket and the finished wax edge on the top of the bag. The Hermès Picotin closes with a signature Kelly lock, has four protective metal feet at the bottom and does not have an interior pocket.
