H ave you seen the trailer? The one in which a beautiful man—played by Alexander Skarsgård—happens to be made out of wicker. It has the internet in a frenzy ahead of the film's autumn release, and all the fanciful wicker talk has us pining for the real thing.
For this week's Shortlist, we pulled together a selection of wicker handbags from Chanel and Hermès. They won't make the perfect husband like Mr. Skarsgård, but they are all pretty much perfect bags.
Hermès Mini Kelly
The most ladylike bag on Earth gets a picnic-forward makeover here. Structured and boxy, the Hermès Kelly is a classic feminine favorite, but when wrought in wicker, it has a more playful appeal. The whiskey-colored leather flap and trim add just the right touch of formality.
Chanel Vanity Case
This woven version of Chanel's classic rectangular Vanity Case is practically designed for a trip along the French Riviera—or just a walk down the street. The natural rattan is interwoven with white and black patent leather, which lends some shine and glitz to the simple shape.
Hermès Picnic
This is a truly elevated basket from Hermès—and a shape shifter. Viewed from one angle, it's a graduating cylinder, from another, an egg, from yet another, you can see the elegant curved base.
Chanel Tote
You could probably fit a few sandwiches and a couple of bottles of wine into this picnic basket from Chanel. The grey and natural tones here are exceedingly understated and chic. And, the absence of CCs make this a lovely choice for someone who wants a special bag that doesn't shout.
Hermès Garden Party
Hermès put the function of this bag right in the name: Garden Party. Indeed, it's a very stylish accessory for such an event and will fit a fan, some sunscreen and a hat quite easily. The white leather base and handle add extra summery appeal.
