8vo (186 x 121 mm). Advertisement for Miss Ludington's Sister on leaf facing title-page. Publisher's grey cloth, spine and upper cover lettered in black and with gilt decoration; some wear and soiling; spine somewhat darkened. Half red morocco gilt slipcase, chemise.


First edition, first printing of the most famous American Utopian romance. Its Victorian protagonist, awakening from a hypnotic sleep in the year 2000, describes the social and economic order of the time and compares it with the age he knew. This extremely popular book led to the founding of numerous Bellamy Clubs and the Nationalist party.
