Jet Tone Archive
The making of every film is fueled by time and dedication. The light is always spotted in front of the camera, but filmmaking is made up of many stages of labor, and the conclusion of each stage is always greeted with scenes of chaos: a deserted location after a day of shooting, a dismantled set after months of construction and reconstruction, carefully crafted costumes bundled and piled up in abandoned dressing rooms, pages of screenplay drafted over sleepless nights scattered and dissolved on the ground, an empty theater hall after a packed premiere, and worn film prints and posters left to soak under the rain in the back alleys of movie theaters…
Since the establishment of Jet Tone Films, I have always collected what I could and should from every production. I have tried my best to find a home for this collection of words, sounds and music, costumes, props and even merchandise. In the end, my productions only served as a temporary home for these items. My wife, Esther, is someone that cherishes memories. I thank her and the team at Jet Tone Archive for years of dedication in providing these items with a fitting and lasting home.
The purpose of this archive is to preserve memorable pieces of our works in their best condition before they are ready to be shared by others. 30 years ago, Jet Tone Archive was born together with Jet Tone Films. To mark this occasion, we have selected 30 representative collectibles for this auction. Our wish is that others can keep this light burning. For that, we are grateful for the dedicated support from Sotheby’s Hong Kong.
