Brief History of Goyard
Goyard was initially founded by Pierre-Francois Martin in 1792 as Maison Martin specializing in packing and making boxes and trunks. Louis-Henri Moral was the successor to Martin. In 1845, Morel hired Francois Goyard at 17 as an apprentice. After the sudden death of Moral, Goyard took over the business and renamed the business to Maison Goyard. Goyard remained at the head for 32 years and later handed over the business to his son Edmond Goyard in 1885. Edmond Goyard elevated Goyard by establishing factories where he could ensure the highest quality craftsmanship for its products, surpassing the expectations of Goyard's elite clientele.
In 1998, Maison Goyard was bought by Jean-Michel Signoles. Under Signoles' guidance, Maison Goyard has maintained its commitment to craftsmanship while expanding its retail presence and adding additional colors and styles to its core assortment.
Goyard's distinctive craftsmanship lies in its use of Goyardine, a material that combines hemp, linen, and cotton, making it water and stain resistant. This durable fabric sets Goyard bags apart; its chevron pattern has become synonymous with the brand, instantly recognizable as a symbol of exclusivity. Goyard has cultivated its reputation on exclusivity and discretion, setting itself apart from traditional marketing practices. Instead of relying on e-commerce, celebrity endorsements, or advertising campaigns, Goyard employs a low-profile approach to maintain exclusivity and desirability. A Goyard bag and other products are only available to purchase in person in one of its 35 locations around the world.
Goyard Bags to Pair with Fall's Hottest Colors
With summer now in the review mirror, time to usher in fall's latest color trends with our favorite Goyard bags. This season Goyard pairs perfectly with must have fall colors including burgundy, shades of gray, rich brown and pops of red. Goyardine chevron in fall's most popular colors will add just the right wardrobe refresh as temperatures fall.
Burgundy
Burgundy is one of the hottest colors for fall this year and was seen all over the runways in rich leathers, classic suiting and fluid dresses. Prada, Bottega Veneta and Ferragamo all featured burgundy for fall. If you want to add burgundy to your fall wardrobe, a classic Goyard Saint Louis tote should be on your shopping list. Goyard goyardine burgundy pattern would pair perfectly with a burgundy coat or top. Additionally if you love basic black or other neutrals, a burgundy Goyard bag is the perfect way to add fall's hottest color to your wardrobe. The Goyard Saint Louis tote was created in the 1930s and remains the most popular Goyard bag. The Goyard Saint Louis comes in three sizes, PM, GM and XXL and has a detachable pouch.
Shades of Gray
Shades of gray were also prominent on fall runways from top designers. Louise Vuitton, Miu Miu, Marni and Stella McCartney featured over-sized double breasted coats, menswear inspired blazers and cozy knits in different shades of gray. If you love neutrals, a gray Goyard Belvedere crossbody is perfect pick for fall. The Goyard Belvedere is a versatile cross body that was styled after the bags carried by loggers working in the Morvan Forest. While you can embrace this fall's popular gray color trend, the gray Goyard Belvedere will be a classic for seasons to come.
Rich Brown Hues
Warm rich earthy brown is another fall favorite as featured by Miu Miu and Chanel. The black and brown Goyard Minaudière Trunk Bag is the perfect addition if you want to add rich brown hue to your fall wardrobe. The brown leather trim and adjustable strap is the perfect shade of brown that will pair with other rich browns or basic black. The black and brown goyardine chevron pattern blends two basic colors seamlessly. You can pair this mini Goyard bag with either black or brown and wear day or night.
Pop of Red
Pops of red are a nice fall refresh for 2024 after a summer of pastels, denim and white. Alexander McQueen and Balmain both featured vibrant cherry reds as part of their fall collections. If you aren't ready to walk out in head to toe cherry red, adding a Red Goyard Senet Pouch is the perfect pop of red you can add to any look. We also love the practical size of Goyard Senat Pouch MM that can be tossed in your tote to hold your essentials but also doubles as a casual clutch.
