"D ining IN" is a new addition to the Sotheby's international sale calendar and is being presented both in New York and London as two concurrent online auctions, open for bidding from August 3rd - August 12th. This sale celebrates the dining experience, in all its formats.
The sale is eclectic in content, ranging through three hundred years of design including regency porcelain, Italian silver and glass, and brown furniture. In times where dining in restaurants is somewhat limited, this sale perfectly caters for clients wishing to create their own beautiful tablescape.
Italian-born designer Elsa Peretti first collaborated with Tiffany & Co. in 1974 to produce her modern jewelry- iconic designs such as the Open Heart pendant, the Bean design, and her Bone cuffs. By the early 1980’s, her collections for Tiffany expanded to include silver, china, and crystal designs for the home. Like her jewelry, these pieces were distinguished by their fluid shape and tactile quality. Offered in this sale are three silver lots designed by Peretti, including an extensive flatware set in the Padova pattern, whose name comes from the Italian city where the design is crafted, and a soup tureen in the Thumbprint design, one of her most famous.
There are a number of lots offered without reserve in the sale. A selection is listed here, but browse the rest of the sale to find other lots that can potentially be purchased below their estimated value.
