The Tahiti pattern was first designed by Gianmaria Buccellati in the 1960's as a flatware line for an influential Italian industrialist, who ordered it for his yacht. The collection name is derived from the French artist Paul Gauguin, who lived in Tahiti during the last period of his life and was inspired by the Polynesian island for his paintings.
