Description

W.B. Yeats

Later Poems [and] Plays in Prose and Verse. London: Macmillan, 1922

FIRST EDITIONS, INSCRIBED BY THE AUTHOR, 2 companion volumes, 8vo, original boards, both volumes lacking scarce dust-jackets, inkstain to upper cover of Plays in Prose and Verse

Each one of 1,500 copies, both volumes inscribed by the author to an unidentified recipient, S.D. Green, on October 15, 1928. Each book was initially inscribed by Yeats to his wife's grandmother, Mrs. Woodmass—the mother of Nelly Tucker (see lots 371 and 405)—in the year of publication. The earlier inscriptions are scribbled out but still legible: "Mrs. Woodmass from W B Yeats, Nov 16, 1922". The first volume has a number of WW1 poems and is a very good copy; the second is less so, both lacking the scarce dust-jackets. I
