Description

W.B. Yeats

The Wild Swans at Coole. New York: Macmillan, 1919

FIRST AMERICAN EDITION, ONE OF 1,500 COPIES, INSCRIBED BY THE AUTHOR, 8vo, original boards, lacking dust-jacket, very slight stain to upper joint

Inscribed by the author: "To my father's good friend Mrs. Cleveland, W.B. Yeats 25 May 1920". The identity of the recipient is obscure, though she was clearly very familiar to the author and his father John Butler Yeats. There has only been one inscribed copy of the first American edition—expanded from the original Cuala Press edition of 1917—at auction since 1974 (and that copy was inscribed the day after this one). A very good copy lacking the dust-jacket.
