What to See Right Now at Sotheby's Hong Kong Autumn Sales 2019

A s Sotheby's Hong Kong Autumn Sales are in full swing at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre, visitors to the galleries are spoiled for choice, with much to see – from spectacular works by modern and contemporary artists to exquisite classical Chinese paintings and works of art, plus a dazzling selection of jewellery and watches which will go under the hammer this season. In addition to this season's auction lineup, art lovers will not want to overlook the selling exhibitions also on view at the Sotheby's galleries.

Featuring seminal works from the 19th and 20th centuries, Panorama: A New Perspective traces the aesthetic development of Modern Art in Europe and the U.S., and towards the leading movements of Contemporary abstract art. From Impressionism to Pop art this exhibition spans over 150 years of art history and includes works by Claude Monet and Andy Warhol, plus an incredible selection of highlights from René Magritte, Alfred Sisley, Yayoi Kusama, Jean-Michel Basquiat, and Roy Lichtenstein.

Regarded as one of the most innovative artists active in Britain during the post-war period Barry Flanagan is best known for his irreverent bronze sculptures depicting frolicking hares, elephants, horses and other animals. Sotheby’s in association with Waddington Custot is delighted to present the largest solo exhibition of works in Hong Kong by the seminal British sculptor.

This exhibition seeks to give its audience in Hong Kong a flavour of the art of Italy from the Renaissance to the 19th century and charts the progress of style and taste across the centuries, from the small, religious panels made for private devotion in the 15th century, through the more extravagant Baroque, to the sensational view paintings, or ‘vedute’, that so appealed to foreign visitors to Italy in the 18th and 19th centuries as mementos of their time there.
