Continuing the success in 2013, the 2019 TNC Gala will give bidders an opportunity to acquire rare vintages and artworks of distinctive contemporary artists from Asia. The event will raise fund for TNC’s important conservancy and sustainability projects in Asia Pacific. Sotheby’s is also delighted to donate buyer’s premium income from this auction for the benefit for this critical cause.
“At The Nature Conservancy (TNC), we value nature for its own sake as well as for the services it provides for people and believe that saving nature is the smartest investment we can make for a more healthy and resilient future.”
The Nature Conservancy is working across 72 countries, including 19 in Asia-Pacific. They partner with communities, corporates and governments to preserve and protect the natural ecosystem on land as well as in our oceans, with the aim to build a world where nature and people could thrive together.
The auction will offer 14 lots of wine and 7 lots of artworks donated by wineries, distilleries, wine connoisseurs, artists and other outstanding individuals. Some lots of wine include tailored visit to the winery, which makes this a great opportunity to experience the culture and discover the stories behind great wines.
“Wine, as a unique agricultural product, has been linked with civilized society and the environment for thousands of years. No other beverage allows us to connect with the land…in the same way as wine”
The 14 lots of wines on offer are donated by some of the world's greatest wineries, distilleries and wine connoisseurs, combining impressive large format (double magnums, imperials, and a Nebuchadnezzar), including: 8 double magnums direct from Domaine Clarence Dillon; imperial bottles of 1982 from Lafite, Margaux, Mouton and Chateau Ausone; 8 double magnum vertical from Opus One and Promontory. Another rare offer is an exclusive set of Remy Martin Louis XIII Le Jeroboam, with an invitation to visit the distillery in Cognac. A bottle of 150 year old port in Lalique - Niepoort 1863 will also appear at the auction.
Large format bottles are prized by connoisseurs as they always taste younger and age longer than their normal bottle counterparts. Like all great wines, these are meant to be shared with family and friends. These legendary wines from France, Tuscany, Portugal, and California's Napa Valley are sure to take pride of place in any wine cellar with wines that provide immediate pleasure and others that will benefit from years of careful cellaring. The specially tailored visit to the winery included in some of the lots is sure to provide a unique experience, providing insight to the winery and the people behind the wines as well as memories to last a lifetime.
The seven exceptional works on offer have been generously donated by internationally acclaimed artists from China, Korea and South America today. Emerging artists Yang Yongliang, Zhou Li, Shi Zhiying, Xue Feng and Xue Song are among some of the most exciting young talents from China, while Korean artist Lee Bae and Chilean artist Fernando Prats represent different voices from to other parts of the world.
With gratitude for the sponsors and donors’ generous contributions to the event, Moses Tsang, TNC Asia Pacific Council Co-Chair says: “I hope that their generosity and commitment will spark others to participate in the auction to support conservation”.
