Michele della Valle’s Captivating Jewellery Creations, as worn by Margarita Missoni

By Sotheby's

Leading our inaugural Geneva Fine Jewels sale on 1 June is a captivating jewellery collection by internationally acclaimed designer Michele della Valle. Comprising 82 lots, this group of jewels is a vibrant and colourful celebration of his distinctive and exuberant style. The works will be on view in Geneva, Rue François-Diday 2, 1204 Genève, Switzerland from 29 to 31 May and we look forward to welcoming you.

Della Valle’s lyrical and magical compositions are the perfect accessories for the coming season. “To wear a piece of jewellery by Michele della Valle is to be made instantly glamorous; to be invited into the myth and beauty of nature’s extravagance” - Amber Michelle, Michele della Valle, Jewels and Myths.

CORAL, EMERALD, ENAMEL AND DIAMOND BANGLE, 'FRAGOLE', MICHELE DELLA VALLE. ESTIMATE CHF15,500-20,500.

Michele della Valle is a true colourist. His multi-coloured Palette, like his eponym necklace, combines amongst other gemstones bright sapphires, coloured sapphires, tourmaline, amethyst, aquamarine, heliodor and peridot in a feast for the eyes. “Perhaps the most important part of della Valle’s design vocabulary – and where his creative genius is immediately recognisable – is his use of colour” - Amber Michelle, Michele della Valle, Jewels and Myths.

PAIR OF YELLOW SAPPHIRE AND ONYX EAR CLIPS, 'CHICKS', MICHELE DELLA VALLE. ESTIMATE CHF 2,200-3,300.

Nature has always been an important source of inspiration for jewellery and the world of della Valle is where nature meets with colours and dreams. The ‘Anemoni’ necklace, capturing the splendour of nature, is the perfect example of della Valle’s flora inspired jewels. The flowers on this delicate garland, set with coloured sapphires and rubies looks like they have just been picked out of a garden. The fanciful ‘Fragole’ bangle with realistic coral berries seems straight out of a fairy tale. His vivacious animal creatures, often featuring movement and set with bright gemstones, like the pair of yellow sapphire ‘Chicks’ ear clips or the enamel and diamond ‘Monkeys’ reveals the playful side of this opera lover who has an acute eye for the stage and the theatrical.

GEM-SET, ENAMEL AND DIAMOND NECKLACE, 'ANEMONI', MICHELE DELLA VALLE. ESTIMATE CHF25,500-35,500.

For every piece, the maestro designer has a passionate story or a charming anecdote to tell:  “My designs are cheerful, never dramatic. I never forget that they are meant to bring joy, to beautify the wearer”. The defining characteristic of Michele della Valle’s art is the musicality to the colour and the joie de vivre emanating from his pieces.

This particular piece was worn by Margherita Missoni at the Sotheby’s White Baaz dinner at the Venice Biennale earlier this month.
