Following on from the incredible success of Samuel John Peploe’s Still Life with Tulips and Fan in our Rembrandt to Richter auction in July we are pleased to offer a number of fabulous works by Peploe. The sale also features an outstanding selection of works by the other Scottish Colourists, F.C.B. Cadell, George Leslie Hunter and J.D. Fergusson. Works by Samuel John Peploe
The sale presents an exquisite selection of works by Samuel John Peploe one of Scotland’s greatest ever painters. Showcasing Peploe’s extensive range of subjects and styles these paintings trace his illustrious career from early elegant still lifes, captivating views of Iona, Scottish landscapes inspired by Cezanne to his masterful still life arrangements of the 1920s.
Property from a Private Scottish Collection
Another highlight of the sale is a wonderful collection of pictures from a Private Scottish Collection. The collection has been carefully and passionately built over a number of years and represents a fantastic survey of Scottish 20th-century painting, including elegant and refined still lifes to sweeping landscapes and vistas. Represented are some of the great names of Scottish Art including F.C.B. Cadell, John Duncan Fergusson, John MacLauchlan Milne, George Leslie Hunter, Dame Elizabeth Blackadder, Sir William Gillies, Anne Redpath and Sir William MacTaggart amongst many others.
Celebrating Female Artists
Represented in Sotheby’s Scottish Art sale is a selection of fantastic works by some of Scotland’s greatest female painters. Joan Eadley was one of the most unique artists working in Scotland during the post-war period and it is a pleasure to offer two remarkable sweeping landscapes of Catterline alongside a typically characterful and intimate view of a Glasgow tenement. There are a number of exceptional still life works by two of the towering names of Scottish Art, Anne Redpath and Dame Elizabeth Blackadder, painted in their instantly recognisable styles. We are also delighted to present a superb rendering of folded fabric by the contemporary painter Alison Watt.
