The following report has been provided by Hamish Dewar Ltd UNCONDITIONAL AND WITHOUT PREJUDICE Structural Condition: The canvas is unlined and is securely attached to what is evidently the original keyed wooden stretcher. There are very slight undulations in the canvas which are inherent to the work. The overall structural condition is very good and it is obviously most encouraging to find the canvas in it's original unlined state. Paint surface: The paint surface has the artist's very dry, unvarnished appearance and as a result of the dry surface there are inevitably some very slightly lifting areas which would benefit from minimal localised consolidation. The paint surface could also be very lightly surface cleaned and given a thin, almost imperceptible, matt varnish if required. It may be felt preferable however to retain the dry unvarnished appearance. There is one very small area near to the centre of the composition which could be a paint loss but which, upon close inspection, I am confident is merely where the artist's brushstroke has not covered the underlying canvas. I could find no evidence of retouching under ultraviolet light. Summary: The painting would therefore appear to be in excellent and original condition and requires only very minimal intervention.
