Pink Roses

signed Peploe (lower right)

oil on canvas

unframed: 38 by 30.5cm.; 15 by 12in.

framed: 52.5 by 45cm.; 20¾ by 17¾in.

Executed circa 1906.

The original canvas. The work appears to be in very good overall condition. There is a very slight draw in the upper left corner, hardly visible. There are a few areas of minor localised craquelure in the paler background colours, notably in the upper left and lower left hand quadrants, only visible on close inspection. There is some minor rubbing and abrasion visible to the right hand and lower framing edges. There is a layer of surface dirt and discoloured varnish. UV light inspection reveals retouching to the left and right hand framing edges with some touches to the upper framing edge. There is a small area of retouching in the extreme upper right hand corner. There are what appear to be some possible touches to the area of white paint just to the left of the vase. Held in a decorative gilt frame.
